Laser Surgery

Your pet's health is as important to us as it is to you. We are pleased to offer laser surgery as an exciting new option for safe, comfortable surgical treatment. In many procedures, the laser will replace the scalpel and provide a better alternative to traditional surgery.

Why? Laser Surgery

Less Pain-

Laser energy seals nerve endings as it moves through tissue. Your pet feels less pain post-operatively. Pain is a function of energy produced at the surgery site; the diameter of our laser is 10.6μm (Micrometers) less than the diameter of most cells! With a laser the affected tissue is merely cells thick and the energy is focused in a linear fashion, which prevents the surrounding tissue from being damaged.

Less Bleeding-

The laser seals small blood vessels during surgery which allows your doctor to perform surgeries with extraordinary precision. This also speeds up some procedures reducing the need for long term anesthesia.

Less Swelling-

Laser energy does not crush, tear or bruise because only a beam of intense light contacts the tissue. The laser, when set at high energy, actually vaporizes the tissue; this will allow us to do precise surgeries without having to take vast, sensitive areas.

What Does this mean for my pet?

Reduced risk of infection-The laser sterilizes as it removes diseased tissue, killing bacteria that cause infection. Since nothing touches the tissues there is less risk of "pulling and dragging" bacteria into the incision.

Precision-The laser can remove unhealthy tissue while minimizing the adverse effects to healthy surrounding tissue. In the past, some tumor removals would require removing the surrounding tissue, now in most cases we can precisely vaporize the tumor only.

Quick return to normal activities-

There is less post-op discomfort so recovery is rapid thus shortening hospital stays.

What types of Procedures can be performed with a laser?

A laser is ideal for a wide variety of surgical procedures for dogs, cats, birds and other pets. Laser surgery can correct many common conditions such as cysts, tumors, warts, and infections that may occur around the eyes, ears, mouth and anywhere on the skin. Specialized internal procedures are also possible. Our laser can also be used for procedures contracting the skin without making an incision! It can also be used for hair removal, especially around the eyes. We will also be able to remove any unwanted tattoos your pets may have acquired through the years. Dr. Banull will be able to tell you if your pet's procedure can be performed with a laser.

Laser surgery is easy on you too!

All other surgical, anesthetic, and prep charges remain the same. We add a laser surcharge which will depend on the complexity of the procedure and power use of the machine. Call and ask for a quote.
